Anaheim Founders’ Park

Night view of Los Angeles city lights from Griffith Observatory terrace

Anaheim Founders' Park is a historic green space where preserved pioneer homes, shaded lawns, and the early story of Anaheim's settlement come together in a quiet corner of the city that feels like stepping into the past.

Located along West Broadway near North Anaheim Boulevard just minutes from Downtown Anaheim and the Anaheim Packing District, this modest but meaningful park protects some of the city's earliest surviving structures. Walk through the gates and the environment immediately shifts away from the surrounding streets. Mature trees shade open lawns while two restored nineteenth-century homes stand carefully preserved at the center of the grounds, offering a glimpse into the earliest days of Anaheim's development.

Anaheim Founders' Park reflects the origins of Anaheim itself, a community first established in the 1850s by German immigrant settlers who arrived to build an agricultural colony.

The park preserves two of the city's oldest residential structures: the Pioneer House, built in 1857, and the Woelke-Stoffel House, constructed in the 1890s. These homes represent different eras of Anaheim's early growth, when vineyards and farming shaped the region long before tourism and theme parks transformed the city's identity. Anaheim's original founders were primarily winemakers who cultivated grapes across the surrounding land, making the area one of California's early wine-producing regions. Although the wine industry declined after disease and prohibition reshaped agriculture, the city continued to grow, eventually becoming one of Orange County's largest communities.

Anaheim Founders' Park fits naturally into a day exploring the historic and cultural heart of central Anaheim.

Start by visiting the Anaheim Packing District along Anaheim Boulevard between Santa Ana Street and Center Street, where restored citrus packing houses now host restaurants, cafΓ©s, and gathering spaces celebrating the city's culinary scene. After spending time downtown, head a few blocks west to the park where shaded lawns and preserved pioneer homes quietly tell the story of Anaheim's earliest beginnings.
