Hilltop Coffee + Kitchen – Inglewood

Night view of Los Angeles city lights from Griffith Observatory terrace

Hilltop Coffee + Kitchen – Inglewood is a vibrant neighborhood café where espresso, bold breakfast plates, and a buzzing creative crowd transform a simple La Brea Avenue storefront into one of South LA's most energizing gathering places.

Located at 170 North La Brea Avenue in the heart of Inglewood, this two-story café blends specialty coffee, hearty brunch dishes, and community-driven atmosphere into a space that feels equal parts workspace, social hub, and neighborhood living room. The moment you step inside, the energy becomes clear. Conversations spill across tables, laptops glow beneath natural light, and the scent of espresso mingles with breakfast burritos and warm pastries drifting out of the kitchen. The interior leans airy and modern, with plenty of seating spread across two levels so freelancers, friends, and families can settle in for a while. Instead of a quiet coffee counter, Hilltop thrives on motion. People arrive for morning meetings, creative sessions, or casual brunch, and the room hums with the steady optimism of a place designed to help people connect, work, and recharge.

Hilltop Coffee + Kitchen – Inglewood is part of a Black-owned Los Angeles café brand built around the idea that a coffee shop can function as a community hub as much as a business.

The concept was founded in 2018 by Yonnie Hagos and Ajay Relan with a mission to create inclusive gathering spaces in neighborhoods that historically lacked modern café workspaces. Actress and producer Issa Rae later joined as a partner, helping expand the brand and spotlight its cultural mission. The Inglewood location became one of the company's flagship cafés, drawing visitors not just for coffee but for its role as a creative meeting ground in South Los Angeles. The menu reflects that ambition. Instead of a simple pastry counter, the kitchen offers full breakfast and lunch plates such as the Bangin' Breakfast Burrito, shrimp and grits, and the Buenos Días Bowl layered with rice, eggs, avocado, and chipotle crema. Drinks move well beyond basic espresso as well, featuring specialty lattes, matcha creations, smoothies, and seasonal beverages designed to keep the café experience fresh. The result is a place where coffee culture intersects with local creativity, drawing everyone from students and writers to longtime residents and curious visitors.

Hilltop Coffee + Kitchen – Inglewood works beautifully as a morning or midday anchor when exploring the evolving cultural energy of Inglewood.

Arrive earlier in the day when the café opens and claim a table before the brunch crowd builds. Start with a specialty latte or cold brew, then pair it with something hearty like the Bangin' Breakfast Sandwich or the Buenos Días Bowl to fuel the day ahead. The atmosphere rewards lingering. Between bites, watch the creative flow around you, writers tapping on keyboards, friends catching up over coffee, artists studying the rotating artwork on the walls. Because the café sits close to the SoFi Stadium corridor and Inglewood's growing entertainment district, many visitors combine it with a walk through nearby neighborhoods or a stop at local shops. By the time the coffee cup empties and the crowd shifts around you, the memory that remains will be the unmistakable feeling of a café designed not just for caffeine but for community.
