The Simpsons Ride, Universal City

The Simpsons Ride is a fast paced motion simulator attraction where the chaotic humor of Springfield explodes into a roller coaster style adventure inside Universal Studios Hollywood.

Located inside Universal Studios Hollywood along the Upper Lot near the central Springfield themed area, this animated thrill ride drops guests directly into the world of The Simpsons. The experience begins before you even board the ride. Visitors enter Krustyland, the fictional theme park owned by Krusty the Clown, where bright carnival colors, jokes, and references from the television series fill every corner. The line itself becomes part of the entertainment, packed with parody advertisements, absurd safety announcements, and visual gags that feel straight out of a Simpsons episode. Once aboard the ride vehicle, the adventure launches into a high energy simulated roller coaster where Homer, Bart, and the entire Springfield cast collide in a ridiculous chain reaction of cartoon chaos.

The Simpsons Ride replaced the former Back to the Future motion simulator attraction when it debuted in 2008.

Universal Studios partnered directly with the creators of The Simpsons to design an experience that would capture the irreverent humor of the show while translating it into a theme park ride. Rather than relying on physical track movement, the attraction uses large scale projection screens combined with motion platforms that tilt, bounce, and spin in synchronization with the animation. This approach allows riders to experience the illusion of an extreme roller coaster without leaving the theater style ride system. The surrounding Springfield section of Universal Studios Hollywood was later expanded to include themed restaurants, carnival games, and visual recreations of locations from the show including Moe's Tavern and Krusty Burger. The area became one of the most immersive themed zones in the park, allowing guests to step fully into the animated universe of Springfield.

The Simpsons Ride works best as part of a broader exploration of Universal Studios Hollywood's Upper Lot attractions.

Head to the ride earlier in the day when crowds are lighter, especially if you want to experience the attraction without long wait times. Take time to enjoy the queue area since many of the jokes and visual details hidden along the walls are easy to miss when rushing through. After the ride ends, wander through the surrounding Springfield area where themed eateries and storefronts continue the playful world of the show. Grab a Krusty Burger or stop for a photo beside the giant Lard Lad donut statue before moving on to the rest of the park. The experience captures the spirit of The Simpsons perfectly, loud, ridiculous, and endlessly entertaining within one of Hollywood's most iconic theme parks.
