Four Points Manhattan Midtown West, New York

Four Points Manhattan Midtown West is a kinetic hotel where Hudson Yards' rail heritage, vertical ambition and westward expansion converge at the edge of a Manhattan district engineered around constant movement.

Set along 10th Avenue near West 35th Street and just steps from Hudson Yards, the hotel occupies a site acquired by Joy Construction in 2013 before the developer began building a 70,000-square-foot hotel there in 2014. Joy Construction served as both developer and general contractor on the $40 million project, completing the building in early 2017 after incorporating additional development rights acquired from the Hudson Yards Business Improvement District. The property's ground-floor frontage became home to Fresh & Co, while the upper accommodation floors rise from a narrow Manhattan parcel toward views across the Hudson River and the rapidly changing Far West Side. Four Points Manhattan Midtown West consequently emerged from the same concentrated construction cycle that was pushing Manhattan westward, giving the hotel a character tied directly to the physical remaking of the blocks between Penn Station, the Hudson River and the rail yards.

Four Points Manhattan Midtown West is best known for opening in February 2017 as the fifth Four Points by Sheraton property in Manhattan, introducing 148 guestrooms at 444 10th Avenue while becoming the 21st Marriott-branded hotel in Real Hospitality Group's portfolio. Joy Construction owned the property at its debut and Real Hospitality Group managed operations, while Hudson Bar Room opened as its American restaurant and the lounge carried Four Points' Best Brews and BBQ concept pairing local draft beer with seasonal barbecue preparations. Only months after opening, Marriott selected the hotel to launch its Best Brews Around the World campaign on August 3, 2017, the eve of International Beer Day, beginning an international series that continued through Four Points properties in Cancun, Kelowna, Melbourne, Nairobi and Barcelona. Peekskill Brewery and LIC Beer Project competed at the Manhattan kickoff under beer personality Bella of One Hoppy Lady, with LIC Beer Project's Higher Burnin' IPA winning the head-to-head competition and becoming the property's Best Brew.

Marriott's international beer program connected the Midtown West property to a network exceeding 225 Four Points hotels, each charged with selecting a local craft beer according to taste, popularity, quality and proximity to the individual property. Certified Cicerone participants joined beer enthusiasts and hotel guests in judging the competitions, while an invited beer expert hosted each event and cast the final vote, turning the Manhattan launch into the prototype for subsequent competitions across five countries. The property has since replaced Hudson Bar Room with Bellhop Bar & Restaurant, an American concept centered on cocktails, beer and wine, while Marriott's current materials identify the hotel as fully renovated. That progression from the 2017 Hudson Bar Room and Best Brews launch to the present Bellhop incarnation gives Four Points Manhattan Midtown West an unusually specific place within the wider Four Points story, connecting a single 10th Avenue hotel with a brand program that traveled from Manhattan to Barcelona within months of its opening.

Four Points Manhattan Midtown West works as the anchor for an afternoon tracing the freight infrastructure, exhibition architecture and kinetic design that explain how Manhattan's Far West Side became one of the city's great experiments in vertical reinvention.

Begin at High Line, where New York Central's street-level freight trains had helped make 10th Avenue notorious as β€œDeath Avenue” before the West Side Improvement lifted rail traffic above the streets, producing an elevated freight line fully operational by 1934 that entered buildings including the National Biscuit Company factory and eventually became the foundation for a park whose first section opened in June 2009. Continue to Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, where I.M. Pei & Partners' glass-and-steel Crystal Palace opened in 1986 before a 1.2-million-square-foot expansion arrived in 2021, extending the complex with a new exhibition hall, 200,000 square feet of meeting space and a one-acre rooftop farm while reinforcing 11th Avenue as a major gathering axis. Conclude at The Shed, where Diller Scofidio + Renfro and Rockwell Group created a 200,000-square-foot arts center that opened on April 5, 2019 with an eight-level fixed building and a telescoping outer shell capable of rolling along rails onto an adjoining plaza, creating the 17,200-square-foot McCourt for audiences of 1,200 seated or 2,700 standing. The progression moves from New York Central's elevated freight engineering through Pei's glass exhibition complex into Diller Scofidio + Renfro and Rockwell Group's movable cultural architecture, revealing successive generations of structural ambition within the immediate world surrounding Four Points Manhattan Midtown West.
