GRAND MONday Asakusa, Tokyo

GRAND MONday Asakusa is a refined apartment hotel where Asakusa's craft culture, contemporary Japanese aesthetics and evolving neighborhood character converge within an unusually private interpretation of extended-stay hospitality.

Set along Kokusai-dori near Asakusa-dori and just steps from Kappabashi, the hotel occupies a slender contemporary building in Nishi-Asakusa, positioning its restrained facade between the district's specialist merchants and the denser entertainment streets surrounding Sensoji. Inside, the visual language draws on the GRAND MONday concept of combining refined luxury with modern Japanese aesthetics, using warmer materials, restrained detailing and a quieter residential sensibility to soften the transition from the surrounding streets. The experiential payoff comes through that contrast, as the commercial energy of Kappabashi and Asakusa gives way to an interior conceived around privacy, calm and contemporary interpretations of Japanese design. The result is a hotel where GRAND MONday's modern Japanese character transforms Asakusa's dense urban texture into a more intimate expression of the neighborhood.

GRAND MONday Asakusa is best known for beginning as MONday Apart Premium Asakusa, announced by JHAT on June 28, 2024 as the 25th property in the hotel MONday Group and the highest-tier expression of the MONday Apart brand then operating across Tokyo and Kyoto. The project had reached completion in May 2024 under Ichiken, with Daiichi Realtor commissioning the purpose-built property before JHAT introduced it into a portfolio led by president Akira Hirabayashi. Recognition arrived quickly when MONday Apart Premium Asakusa received a Booking.com Traveller Review Award 2025, placing the new property among JHAT's internationally recognized apartment hotels during its first operating cycle. JHAT subsequently rebranded the property as GRAND MONday Asakusa on April 1, 2026, moving it from the MONday Apart Premium character into the company's newly created flagship brand less than two years after the original debut. The June 2024 opening, 25th-property milestone, Ichiken construction, Daiichi Realtor commission, Akira Hirabayashi leadership, 2025 Booking.com recognition and April 2026 rebranding give GRAND MONday Asakusa an unusually concentrated institutional history for such a young Tokyo hotel.

GRAND MONday itself emerged in April 2025 when JHAT launched the new premium marque with GRAND MONday Ginza, establishing a higher tier above the company's existing hotel MONday and MONday Apartment identities. Its visual character incorporates the form of mizuhiki, the traditional Japanese decorative cord associated with gifts and ceremonial bonds, translating the custom into a logo intended to express omotenashi while combining delicacy with strength. GRAND MONday Asakusa became the brand's second property through the 2026 conversion, connecting JHAT's new premium strategy with a hotel that had already earned Booking.com recognition under its previous identity. Tripadvisor then selected GRAND MONday Asakusa for a 2026 Travelers' Choice Award, placing it among the top 10 percent of accommodations worldwide and giving the rebranded property another international distinction during the same year as its relaunch. Together, JHAT, Akira Hirabayashi, GRAND MONday Ginza, mizuhiki and Tripadvisor trace the property's progression from a 2024 MONday Apart flagship into the second address of a new Japanese premium hotel brand.

GRAND MONday Asakusa works as the anchor for an afternoon tracing specialist craftsmanship, traditional performance and the material culture that continues to define Asakusa.

Begin at Kappabashi, where merchants started gathering around 1912 to sell old tools and hardware before the corridor developed into Japan's largest kitchenware district, now extending 800 meters through more than 170 specialist shops serving professional cooks, restaurateurs and dedicated home chefs. Continue to Drum Museum, where Miyamoto Unosuke Shoten, founded by Seisuke in 1861, draws upon more than a century and a half of drum and festival-equipment craftsmanship through a collection of nearly 900 instruments from Japan and abroad, extending the work of a company that has also supplied gagaku instruments to the Imperial Household. Conclude at Asakusa Engei Hall, opened in August 1964 from a theatrical lineage beginning with a French-style revue venue in 1951 and Toyo Theater in 1959, where performers including Kiyoshi Atsumi and Kinichi Hagimoto built careers and Takeshi Kitano famously worked as an elevator operator before becoming one of Japan's best-known entertainers. The progression moves from Kappabashi's century-old merchant specialization through Miyamoto Unosuke Shoten's instrument craftsmanship into Asakusa Engei Hall's postwar performance history, revealing the working creative traditions surrounding GRAND MONday Asakusa.
