Harebare Pecori Shinjuku, Tokyo

Harebare Pecori Shinjuku is an exuberant izakaya where Kabukicho's late-night culture, Western-inflected comfort food, theatrical desserts and densely decorated interiors converge beside Seibu-Shinjuku Station.

Set along Seibu-Shinjuku Ekimae-dori near Yasukuni-dori and just steps from Cine City Square, the seventh-floor restaurant surrounds dinner with mosaic lamps, hanging lanterns, greenery and antique-style furnishings. Oversized roast beef, pizza and cocktails push the meal toward sharing before elaborate milkshakes turn dessert into the restaurant's most visually emphatic course. The setting carries that maximalism further through shifting illumination and ornament spread across walls, ceilings and the bar. The result is a Kabukicho izakaya where food, drinks and decoration pursue the same sense of abundance deep into the night.

Harebare Pecori Shinjuku is best known for opening on July 7, 2017 after Five Group converted the former Pecori Seibu-Shinjuku Ekimae operation into a more visually ambitious offshoot of its Western-style izakaya concept. The company, led by president Kenji Sakamoto, positioned the new restaurant around feasting, alcohol, parties and surprises, directing the concept particularly toward women. Crazy Shake became the defining launch creation: candy, cookies, whipped cream and other sweets climbed above the glass, and the first 100 advance-reservation groups received one during the opening promotion. The kitchen pursued comparable scale through sirloin roast beef sold by weight and cooked slowly in a dedicated roasting oven, including a two-pound presentation priced at Β₯8,900 before tax at launch. Chef Fukuda subsequently pushed the food beyond straightforward Italian-bar territory through dishes including jerk chicken seasoned with Spice Road's Grace Jerk Seasoning, bringing Caribbean herbs and spice into a menu already built around conspicuous presentation. Harebare Pecori later returned to the broader Pecori name, and the same Kabukicho address now operates as Pecori Shinjuku within Five Group's continuing family of Western-style izakaya.

Crazy Shake captures the original Harebare concept at its most excessive, building upward from the milkshake with whipped cream, cookies, candies, chocolate and cotton candy until dessert becomes a stacked construction above the rim. Caramel Nuts, Berry Berry and Green Tea originally gave that format three different flavor directions, letting nuts, fruit or matcha temper the surrounding sweetness. Sirloin roast beef changes the scale without abandoning the performance, arriving as a substantial portion of slowly roasted meat that can be divided across the table before pizza and smaller plates reset the pace. Jerk chicken pushes dinner toward allspice, herbs and chile through Grace Jerk Seasoning, giving the heavier meat dishes a sharper aromatic register. Harebare Pecori made excess the organizing pleasure of the table, carrying size, color and unexpected combinations from the first shared plates through the final towering shake.

Harebare Pecori Shinjuku works as the dinner anchor for an evening tracing Kabukicho through postwar film culture, independent cinema and the large-scale entertainment development that returned theater to a historically important site.

Begin at Shinjuku Musashinokan, descended from a cinema founded in 1920 and subsequently associated with foreign-film exhibition before moving into its present Shinjuku building in 1968, preserving an independent screen through successive changes in the district. Continue to Shinjuku Piccadilly, where Shochiku reopened its Shinjuku cinema operation in 2008 as a ten-screen complex, extending a local theatrical lineage that had begun on the site decades earlier. Conclude at Tokyu Kabukicho Tower, opened in 2023 on the former Shinjuku Tokyu Milano site, where Yuko Nagayama designed a 225-meter entertainment complex containing cinema, live music and a theater named for the Milano-za that opened there in 1956. The progression moves from a century-old independent cinema through Shochiku's modern multiplex to Nagayama's vertical entertainment complex, revealing how film and performance repeatedly reshaped Kabukicho around Harebare Pecori.
