M+ is best known for opening to the public on 12 November 2021 as Asia's first global museum dedicated to contemporary visual culture, becoming the flagship institution of the West Kowloon Cultural District through a collection exceeding 8,000 works spanning visual art, design and architecture, moving image, and Hong Kong visual culture from the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architects Herzog & de Meuron in collaboration with TFP Farrells and Arup, the HK$4.9 billion museum encompasses approximately 65,000 square meters, including 33 galleries, three cinemas, a media cinémathèque, learning facilities, research centers, conservation laboratories, restaurants, retail spaces, and one of the world's largest museum LED façades measuring approximately 110 by 65 meters overlooking Victoria Harbour.
