Steinmetz Hall, Orlando

Reflections of Dr. Phillips Center glowing in Downtown Orlando evening light

Steinmetz Hall is a world-class performance venue where Downtown Orlando's cultural ambition, transformative engineering, architectural excellence, and acoustic innovation create one of the world's finest concert halls.

Set along South Magnolia Avenue near South Street and just steps from the Walt Disney Theater, this extraordinary venue combines warm cherry wood interiors, polished copper details, adaptable seating, precision-engineered acoustics, and revolutionary multiform architecture capable of transforming for symphonic concerts, opera, ballet, theatrical productions, and contemporary performances. Elegant craftsmanship, exceptional sightlines, and immersive sound establish an environment where every performance is experienced with extraordinary clarity regardless of seating location. The result is a destination defined by engineering ingenuity, architectural sophistication, and artistic excellence.

Steinmetz Hall is best known for opening in January 2022 as one of the world's most acoustically advanced performance venues, achieving the prestigious N1 sound rating, the lowest background noise level perceptible to the human ear, while introducing a revolutionary multiform theater capable of transforming its shape, seating, stage, and acoustics to accommodate an exceptional range of performing arts. Designed by architect Barton Myers in collaboration with theater consultant Richard Pilbrow of Theatre Projects and acoustician Damian Doria of Stages Consultants, the approximately 1,700-seat hall represents the culmination of nearly four decades of planning for the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. More than 400 structural isolation pads separate the auditorium from the surrounding building, eliminating vibrations from nearby streets, trains, neighboring theaters, and mechanical systems to preserve extraordinary acoustic purity. A movable six-story performance shell, retractable acoustic banners, adjustable stage platforms, configurable seating systems, and multiple audience layouts allow the venue to transition seamlessly between concert hall, opera house, proscenium theater, theater-in-the-round, banquet configuration, and other specialized arrangements. Every architectural element, from cork flooring and cherry millwork to seating geometry and interior finishes, was engineered to optimize natural acoustics, enabling performers to present orchestral music, opera, chamber performances, and spoken-word events without amplification while providing exceptional clarity throughout the hall.

Transformable architecture, meticulous acoustic engineering, and exceptional construction quality allow Steinmetz Hall to accommodate internationally acclaimed orchestras, ballet companies, opera productions, Broadway performances, and contemporary artists within a single adaptable venue. Precision engineering, architectural vision, and uncompromising acoustic performance collectively establish Steinmetz Hall among the world's most technically accomplished performing arts venues.
