Hotel Gracery Ginza, Tokyo

Hotel Gracery Ginza is a polished urban hotel where Ginza's fashion culture, commercial sophistication and Fujita Kanko's evolving approach to city hospitality converge within the district's celebrated Seventh Chome.

Set along Ginza Suzuran-dori near Chuo-dori and just steps from GINZA SIX, the hotel occupies a 270-room property whose immediate streetscape places contemporary luxury retail beside institutions carrying more than a century of Ginza history. Inside, the progression moves from the commercial intensity outside toward a deliberately calmer interior character built around Hotel Gracery's concept of the hotel as a β€œthird place,” with the lobby elevated to the third floor and the surrounding city increasingly filtered from view. The transition becomes the defining experience, turning one of Tokyo's most concentrated shopping environments into a setting for retreat without severing the property's relationship with Ginza. The result is a hotel where Seventh Chome's commercial energy and Hotel Gracery's β€œthird place” philosophy create a particularly direct expression of contemporary Ginza hospitality.

Hotel Gracery Ginza is best known for beginning life as the 270-room Ginza Washington Hotel in October 2006 before Fujita Kanko transformed it on October 1, 2008 into one of the two inaugural properties of its new Hotel Gracery brand, simultaneously converting Sapporo Washington Hotel as the company created a tier positioned above its established Washington Hotel operation. Hotel Gracery Tamachi followed on October 16 as the first newly built property carrying the identity, giving Ginza and Sapporo the role of introducing the brand through conversion before Tamachi demonstrated its purpose-built architectural direction later that same month. Fujita Kanko derived the Gracery name from β€œGrace” and developed the concept for travelers seeking greater quality and individuality than conventional business hotels, making the Ginza conversion part of a deliberate attempt to establish a new category between standardized business accommodation and luxury hospitality. The property subsequently completed a comprehensive renovation of all guestrooms by 2017, marking another major physical intervention a decade after the original Ginza Washington opening. The 2006 Ginza Washington debut, 270-room scale, 2008 Gracery conversion, simultaneous Sapporo rebranding, Tamachi launch and later comprehensive renovation make Hotel Gracery Ginza a particularly legible record of Fujita Kanko's effort to create and mature an entirely new Japanese hotel brand.

Fujita Kanko's Gracery experiment subsequently developed from those 2008 beginnings into an international hospitality platform, with Hotel Gracery Shinjuku opening in 2015 before the company established WHG KOREA INC. in 2014 and a Taiwanese subsidiary in 2015 to support expansion beyond Japan. Hotel Gracery Seoul followed in 2018 and Hotel Gracery Taipei in 2021, carrying overseas the brand character first placed on the Ginza and Sapporo properties more than a decade earlier. Ginza itself continued evolving within that network through SAKURA, the hotel's third-floor dining operation, which now functions as an all-day restaurant and anchors its cooking around preparations made within the hotel kitchen. Together, Fujita Kanko, Hotel Gracery Shinjuku, Hotel Gracery Seoul, Hotel Gracery Taipei and SAKURA connect the 2008 Ginza rebranding with the subsequent evolution of Gracery from a domestic brand experiment into an international Japanese hospitality identity.

Hotel Gracery Ginza works as the anchor for an afternoon tracing modern Japanese art patronage, contemporary commercial architecture and theatrical reinvention through Ginza.

Begin at Shiseido Gallery, established by Shinzo Fukuhara in 1919 and considered Japan's oldest surviving art gallery, an institution that has staged more than 3,100 exhibitions and moved into Ricardo Bofill's Tokyo Ginza Shiseido Building in 2001. Continue to GINZA SIX, opened in 2017 with architecture by Yoshio Taniguchi built around a facade inspired by noren and eaves, while Mori Art Museum supervised an art program inaugurated with Yayoi Kusama's suspended polka-dot pumpkins and extending to artists including Shinji Ohmaki and teamLab. Conclude at Kabukiza Theatre, where Kengo Kuma's 2013 fifth-generation complex preserves architectural ideas inherited from Shinichiro Okada's 1924 theater and Isoya Yoshida's 1950 reconstruction beneath a 29-storey tower, continuing an institution founded in 1889 from the merger of three Edo theaters. The progression moves from Fukuhara's century-old artistic patronage through Taniguchi and Kusama's contemporary commercial culture into Kuma's negotiation with generations of Kabukiza architecture, revealing the extraordinary creative lineage surrounding Hotel Gracery Ginza.
