Pils Pub, Milan

Pils Pub is a convivial beer house where Arco della Pace's evening culture, European brewing traditions, televised sport and a new Stella Artois partnership converge beside Parco Sempione.

Set along Via Agostino Bertani near Via Melzi d'Eril and just steps from Arco della Pace, the pub occupies the northern edge of Piazza Sempione, where nineteenth-century residential blocks face the grand entrance to Parco Sempione and restaurants and bars extend through the surrounding side streets. Two internal rooms use timber tables, benches and wall decoration around a long bar, with numerous taps forming the visual center of the operation and multiple screens positioned throughout the seating areas. An outdoor section extends service toward the neighborhood, and major football, rugby and international sporting fixtures shift attention across the screens as groups gather around the bar and tables. The result is an Arco della Pace pub where draft beer, communal seating, sport and direct proximity to Piazza Sempione sustain the social character of a classic European beer house.

Pils Pub is best known for establishing a dedicated beer house near Arco della Pace in June 2014 and entering a major new chapter eleven years later as Stella Artois selected the venue for its first branded bar in Italy. The original concept centered on draft beer in a district that had relatively few dedicated beer venues, developing a tap system that at different stages carried Belgian, British, Czech, German and American brewing traditions. August 2025 brought a substantial renovation before AB InBev chose the Via Bertani pub to inaugurate the Italian expression of Stella Artois's international bar program. The collaboration made Pils Pub the first Italian venue carrying the Stella Artois designation and connected the independent Milan address with a brewing company whose portfolio spans hundreds of beer brands. Cheers to Bars launched there on September 15, 2025 as an event devoted to the social role of bars, turning the newly redesigned premises into the starting point for the initiative in Italy. Stella Artois placed its five-stage Perfect Serve at the center of the evening, emphasizing the technical sequence of glass preparation, pouring, foam control and presentation associated with the Belgian lager. A Polaroid installation invited participants to contribute personal bar stories, which were then displayed across the walls as a collective portrait of the people using the pub. The 2025 transformation consequently moved Pils Pub beyond its original role as a neighborhood beer specialist into a showcase for one of AB InBev's principal international brands, marking the clearest consequential development in the venue's history since its 2014 debut.

Stella Artois now anchors the taps through a pale lager built around crisp malt and pronounced bitterness. Leffe Blonde moves toward fuller malt sweetness, then Leffe Rouge deepens the profile through darker caramel character. Hoegaarden introduces Belgian wheat beer through citrus, coriander and a softer body. Goose Island IPA shifts toward American hop bitterness, and Birra del Borgo ReAle carries the sequence into an Italian interpretation of India pale ale. Franziskaner supplies the banana, clove and wheat character associated with Bavarian weissbier, then Guinness MicroDraught changes both texture and appearance through its dense stout body and nitrogenated head. The kitchen keeps the pairing direct through grilled beef, burgers, schnitzel and fried preparations, allowing malt, carbonation and hop bitterness to meet char, fat and salt across successive beer styles.

Pils Pub works as the evening culmination for a Parco Sempione itinerary tracing Napoleonic performance into the architectural experimentation that accompanied Milan's emergence as an international center for modern design.

Begin at Arena Civica Gianni Brera, commissioned from Luigi Canonica during the Napoleonic reorganization of the territory surrounding Castello Sforzesco and developed as a permanent amphitheater for celebrations and public performance. Canonica drew on ancient Roman precedents for the elliptical structure, construction began in 1806 using stone recovered from demolished fortifications and the arena opened in 1807 before passing to the Municipality of Milan in 1870 and developing a later history tied to football, athletics and civic events. Continue to Triennale Milano, whose origins reach the 1923 International Exhibition of Decorative Arts in Monza before the institution transferred to Milan for its fifth edition in 1933. Antonio Bernocchi and his brothers Michele and Andrea donated five million lire toward a permanent home, Giovanni Muzio designed the resulting Palazzo dell'Arte and figures including Gio Ponti and Mario Sironi helped establish the new Milan chapter around architecture, decorative arts and industrial production. Conclude at Torre Branca, created for that same 1933 Triennale through the collaboration of Gio Ponti, Tommaso Buzzi, Cesare Chiodi and Ettore Ferrari. Tubular Dalmine steel forms its narrowing hexagonal structure, carrying the tower beyond 108 meters and preserving one of the permanent architectural experiments produced for an exhibition that filled Parco Sempione with dozens of temporary constructions. The progression moves from Canonica's Napoleonic arena for mass public performance through Muzio and the Bernocchi family's permanent home for the Triennale into Ponti, Buzzi, Chiodi and Ferrari's vertical experiment in steel for the transformative 1933 exhibition.
