Riverpoint Center, Chicago

Riverpoint Center is a vertical expression of control, a place where architecture rises with intention and the river anchors everything beneath it.

Located in the West Loop along the Chicago River at Canal Street near Lake Street, directly adjacent to Union Station and surrounded by the city's densest commuter and business corridors, this modern office tower operates as both a workplace hub and a riverfront landmark, pairing glass, steel, and open space into a structure that feels sharply integrated into the city's daily flow. The moment you approach, the scale defines the experience. The building lifts cleanly from the ground, creating a covered plaza that opens directly to the river, allowing movement to pass through. It doesn't block the city, it redirects it.

Riverpoint Center is built on engineered openness, using structural design to create space where density would normally dominate.

Completed in 2017, the tower rises over 50 stories, but what distinguishes it is what happens at ground level. The building is elevated on large structural columns, freeing up a public riverwalk plaza beneath it, an uncommon design move in a city defined by tight urban footprints. This creates a layered experience, commuters moving above and below, office life stacked vertically, and public space carved out horizontally along the river. The glass façade reflects both skyline and water, reinforcing its role as a connector. It's not decorative, it's deliberate.

Riverpoint Center works best as a transitional stop, a place to pause within one of the city's busiest zones.

Walk through the plaza rather than around it, letting the scale of the structure register as you move beneath it. Continue toward the riverwalk, where the space opens and the environment shifts from vertical to horizontal. Sit for a few minutes and take in the contrast, trains moving overhead, water moving beside you, people moving through. Then continue on, toward the Loop, West Loop, or beyond. Riverpoint doesn't ask you to stay, it reshapes how you pass through.
