Hotel Zoo Berlin

Gardens and Baroque architecture of Charlottenburg Palace

Hotel Zoo Berlin is where glamorous heritage meets avant-garde design, where Berlin's renowned Ku'damm glamour is reborn in bold, fashion-forward style, and where stepping inside feels like entering a cinematic world crafted for travelers who want personality, luxury, artistry, and an atmosphere that hums with cosmopolitan electricity.

Set directly on Kurfürstendamm, the hotel occupies one of the boulevard's most historically prestigious buildings, a former grand residence turned mid-century celebrity hotspot. Its façade blends classic architecture with contemporary attitude: tall arched windows, elegant stonework, warm façade lighting, and a presence that signals that you're about to enter something iconic. Step through the doors and the transformation is instantaneous. The lobby unfolds like the entrance to a couture runway show, soaring ceilings, dramatic lighting installations, peacock-green tones, sculptural furniture, bold textures, art pieces that demand attention, fireside lounge zones, and a sense of theatricality rooted in impeccable design. It's glamorous, confident, urbane, and fearless. Rooms and suites continue this design narrative with rich fabrics, dark woods, moody lighting, premium bedding, velvet textures, deep color palettes, and an editorial sensibility that feels both sensual and modern. Many rooms feature oversized mirrors, high ceilings, curated art, exposed brick or plaster accents, and floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the energy outside. Bathrooms are luxurious and expressive, freestanding tubs or walk-in rain showers, polished stone or concrete surfaces, matte black or copper fixtures, glowing backlit mirrors, plush towels, and high-end amenities that signal indulgence with intention. Suites elevate everything: expanded sitting areas, statement lighting, bespoke furnishings, curated art installations, and a sense of lavishness that feels at home in Berlin's high-fashion orbit. Hotel Zoo Berlin's design pedigree is one of its defining hallmarks. The property was fully reimagined by internationally acclaimed designers Dayna Lee and Ted Berner, weaving New York loft energy and London townhouse sophistication into the historic bones of a Berlin landmark. The result is a hotel that feels editorial, cinematic, tactile, deeply atmospheric. The public spaces are equally distinctive. The Winter Garden, an airy, glass-enclosed courtyard, glows with natural light by day and transforms into a moody sanctuary by night. The living-room lounge offers plush sofas, a roaring fireplace, candles, and an ambiance somewhere between boutique gallery and private members club. Dining at Hotel Zoo Berlin is anchored by GRACE Restaurant, among City West's most stylish culinary destinations. Expect a modern, global menu with sophisticated flavors, beautifully plated dishes, an A-list crowd, and interiors that feel like stepping into a high-end Berlin film set. GRACE Bar complements the experience with expertly crafted cocktails, DJ sets, atmospheric lighting, and a nightlife energy that draws both locals and international guests. And then there is the rooftop terrace: an urban greenhouse of greenery, glass, and city views, among Berlin's most coveted warm-weather hideaways.

Hotel Zoo Berlin stands on land that encapsulates the evolution of Berlin's most iconic boulevard, land that has witnessed aristocratic luxury, wartime devastation, Cold War glamour, and a modern renaissance rooted in culture, design, and fashion.

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Kurfürstendamm was developed as Berlin's answer to the Champs-Élysées: lined with grand villas, ornate townhouses, glittering shops, elegant cafés, and cultural institutions. The building that now houses Hotel Zoo began as a prestigious residential property, home to elites, intellectuals, and high-society families who defined the social rhythm of Berlin's West End. With high ceilings, carved façades, intricate stucco details, and lavish staircases, the original structure embodied Wilhelmine grandeur. In the 1920s and early 1930s, Ku'damm became the epicenter of glamorous nightlife, cabaret culture, art salons, and film premieres. As Berlin emerged as a creative capital, the building that would become Hotel Zoo drew prominent guests and private gatherings tied to the city's entertainment world. When World War II struck, the area was heavily bombed. Many buildings along Kurfürstendamm were reduced to rubble or left severely damaged. The structure that would become Hotel Zoo survived in altered form but required extensive repairs and reconstruction in the post-war years. In the 1950s and 60s, during the height of West Berlin, the hotel transformed into a celebrity magnet. Actors, musicians, filmmakers, and cultural icons stayed here while performing, filming, or attending events in West Berlin's booming arts scene. Its corridors echoed with the presence of international stars, and it stood among the most prestigious addresses in City West. But as Berlin changed in the 1980s and after reunification, the hotel aged. Its grandeur faded, and by the 1990s it became a shadow of its former self, still notable but no longer aligned with Berlin's rising modern identity. The turning point came with its acquisition and complete reinvention by GRACE Group. Architects and designers stripped the building down to its structural skeleton, uncovering original beams, brickwork, and century-old construction before rebuilding it as a contemporary icon. During the renovation, crews discovered remnants of the original stucco work, fragments of pre-war brick foundations, pieces of flooring from mid-century renovations, and Cold War-era infrastructure layered beneath the surface. These materials were cataloged and preserved where feasible, with some integrated into the new design. A lesser-known detail: the hotel's iconic staircase is partially original, restored and modernized to meet today's architectural standards. This staircase once guided celebrities to gala dinners and late-night events during West Berlin's golden era. Today's version is both a tribute and a new beginning.
