New World Center, Miami Beach

Pedestrian shopping street at Lincoln Road Mall with cafes and boutiques in Miami Beach

New World Center is a visionary concert hall where City Center's artistic ambition, architectural innovation, musical excellence, and technological experimentation redefine how classical music is experienced.

Set along 17th Street near Washington Avenue and just steps from SoundScape Park, this celebrated performance venue welcomes audiences into an extraordinary environment where sculptural architecture, immersive projection technology, flexible performance spaces, and world class acoustics converge within the permanent home of the New World Symphony. Sunlit atriums, flowing interior forms, intimate rehearsal spaces, and an auditorium designed to dissolve the traditional boundaries between musicians and audiences create an atmosphere that celebrates both performance and discovery. Every detail reflects a bold vision for the future of orchestral music while remaining deeply connected to Miami Beach's evolving cultural identity. The result is a destination defined by architectural brilliance, artistic leadership, and one of America's most influential music education centers.

New World Center is best known for opening on January 26, 2011 as the first purpose built home of the New World Symphony, a postgraduate orchestral academy founded by conductor Michael Tilson Thomas, inside a $160 million campus designed by Pritzker Prize winning architect Frank Gehry that reimagined how classical music could be taught, performed, and shared with the public. The 100,641 square foot facility introduced a 756 seat performance hall with acoustics engineered by Yasuhisa Toyota, an exterior projection wall supporting free WALLCAST concerts in adjacent SoundScape Park, and highly flexible rehearsal and performance spaces that have since inspired concert hall design and music education institutions around the world.

Gehry collaborated closely with Michael Tilson Thomas to create a building that encourages interaction between musicians, students, and audiences through transparent public spaces and advanced multimedia technology. The center functions simultaneously as a performance venue, educational laboratory, and architectural landmark where emerging orchestral musicians refine their craft before joining leading ensembles across the globe. Together, its groundbreaking design, innovative technology, and educational mission have established New World Center among the most influential contemporary concert halls in the United States.

New World Center is best experienced as the cultural centerpiece of an exploration through Miami Beach's City Center arts district.

Begin at SoundScape Park, where the beautifully landscaped public space and outdoor WALLCAST projection wall introduce the center's innovative relationship between architecture and public performance before entering New World Center. Continue to Lincoln Road, whose celebrated pedestrian promenade complements the neighborhood's vibrant artistic and culinary character. Conclude at The Bass, where internationally acclaimed contemporary art provides a fitting finale celebrating creativity, design, and cultural innovation. The progression moves naturally from immersive public space to world class musical performance before concluding through one of Miami Beach's defining museums, revealing why New World Center remains among America's most visionary destinations for architecture and classical music.
