Mameem & Maudie Beaufort Cafe, Icery and Shoppe

Mameem & Maudie Beaufort Cafe, Icery and Shoppe is a welcoming cafΓ© where Lady's Island's close-knit community, family traditions, Lowcountry hospitality, and neighborhood charm celebrate the simple joy of gathering together.

Set along Sea Island Parkway near Sams Point Road and just steps from Lady's Island Marina, this inviting cafΓ© blends specialty coffee, handcrafted breakfasts, fresh sandwiches, house-baked treats, premium ice cream, and a thoughtfully curated retail shop into a space that feels equally suited to quiet mornings and lingering afternoons. Comfortable seating, cheerful dΓ©cor, and friendly conversation encourage guests to slow down while enjoying the warm atmosphere inspired by generations of family memories. The result is a cafΓ© defined by heartfelt hospitality, comforting food, and one of Lady's Island's favorite gathering places.

Mameem & Maudie Beaufort Cafe, Icery and Shoppe is best known for being founded in 2015 by twin sisters Leslye Tapp and Sherry Johnston, who named the business in honor of their beloved great-grandmother Mameem and great-aunt Maudie, transforming childhood memories of family gatherings, sweet treats, and old-fashioned hospitality into a business centered on the philosophy of β€œA Little Bit of Everything.” Following the success of the original Bluffton shop, the family expanded to Lady's Island in January 2020 by transforming the former Groucho's Deli into a cafΓ© and retail destination just weeks before the COVID-19 pandemic, adapting through curbside service while establishing a loyal local following that continues today. Ownership remains firmly within the family, with Leslye, Sherry, Morgan Johnston, Billy Tapp, and Chris Johnston each contributing to daily operations while preserving the welcoming atmosphere that inspired the business from its beginning. Beyond specialty coffee, breakfast, lunch, handcrafted ice cream, and boutique shopping, the cafΓ© has become known for handwritten inspirational messages placed on customer takeout bags, reinforcing its commitment to faith, kindness, and meaningful community connections.

Scratch-made breakfast biscuits, buttery croissants, cinnamon rolls, muffins, and breakfast bagels begin the day before generously layered sandwiches, fresh soups, crisp salads, and signature favorites including The Privateer and The Navigator carry the menu into lunch. Rich espresso drinks, carefully brewed coffee, creamy milkshakes, shaved ice, premium ice cream, and freshly baked sweets provide comforting finishes that encourage guests to linger a little longer. Warm pastries, freshly brewed coffee, artisan breads, crisp vegetables, house-prepared fillings, and welcoming service reflect the same spirit of generosity that inspired the cafΓ©'s namesakes, creating an experience where thoughtful hospitality remains as memorable as the food itself.

Mameem & Maudie Beaufort Cafe, Icery and Shoppe works as the centerpiece of a relaxed morning exploring Lady's Island before crossing into historic Beaufort.

Begin at Lady's Island Marina, where peaceful waterfront scenery introduces the maritime character of the island before enjoying breakfast or lunch at Mameem & Maudie Beaufort Cafe, Icery and Shoppe. Continue to Charles E. Fraser Heritage Preserve, whose walking trails and tidal landscapes showcase the natural beauty of the surrounding Lowcountry. Conclude at Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park, where broad Beaufort River views provide a fitting finale celebrating the coastal setting that defines the region. The progression moves naturally from waterfront scenery to comforting cafΓ© fare before concluding beside one of Beaufort's most cherished public spaces.
