Maison Symphonique

Exterior view of Place des Arts plaza in Montreal illuminated at night

The Maison Symphonique de Montréal is a masterpiece of acoustic architecture, a concert hall where every note resonates with clarity, warmth, and grace.

Home to the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal (OSM), this world-class venue captures the city’s devotion to music in its purest form. The hall’s design balances intimacy and grandeur, a modern cathedral for sound where mahogany tones, flowing lines, and golden light create a sense of reverence. Whether it’s the sweep of a full symphony, a quiet solo recital, or a contemporary ensemble, performances here feel personal, as if the music is being played just for you. Every seat offers a perfect listening experience, drawing you into Montréal’s cultural heartbeat through the universal language of sound.

Opened in 2011, the Maison Symphonique was built to give Montréal a dedicated home for orchestral excellence, one that could rival the great halls of Vienna, Berlin, and Boston.

Designed by Diamond Schmitt Architects in collaboration with Ædifica, the hall is celebrated for its near-perfect acoustics, crafted under the guidance of Nagy Acoustics. The interior, lined with beech and cherry wood, acts as both instrument and amplifier, allowing music to bloom naturally within the space. It seats around 2,100 guests, and the stage, made of solid maple, accommodates up to 200 musicians and choristers. The Casavant Frères organ, with over 6,000 pipes, stands as one of the largest and most magnificent in the country, used for both symphonic and solo performances. Beyond the concerts, the venue also serves as a cultural bridge, hosting film scores, world music, and community performances that celebrate Montréal’s diversity.

When exploring Place des Arts, reserve an evening to experience a live performance at the Maison Symphonique, ideally one featuring the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal under the baton of a guest conductor.

Arrive early to take in the sleek, light-filled lobby and its panoramic view of the Quartier des Spectacles, where the hum of the city contrasts with the serenity waiting inside. For the best experience, choose a seat near the center mezzanine, where the acoustics are sublime and the view of the organ pipes is breathtaking. If attending during festival season, time your visit with the Montréal International Jazz Festival or Festival de Lanaudière, both of which feature special symphonic collaborations here. After the concert, enjoy a quiet evening stroll through the illuminated esplanade or sip wine at a nearby café as the night’s music lingers. At the Maison Symphonique, sound becomes spirit, and Montréal’s devotion to the arts finds its purest voice.
